Eyes

Inspired by Georgia Heard and her suggestion to look around the world and see where poetry lives...

Breath catches in my chest.

I've stared into your eyes for thousands of days.

They still grab me,

holding me to the present.

When contemplative,

cornflower blue.

When exuberant,

glittering like the sea.

When feeling blue,

steely gray.

Your eyes are where poetry lives.

  1. You crafted an unbelievably stunning piece of poetry. Your little guy's eyes are striking. So glad you included the photos. That final line is breathtaking. "Your eyes are where poetry lives . . . " P.S. You need to share this with his future bride and she can read it at his wedding someday! 😊

  2. Dear Still in the Pleats,

Rereading this most illustrious poem catches MY breath. Your lyrical prowess is so beautiful to the ear. I can't decide what I like more, your compelling cadence or your captivating word choice. That you specified "cornflower blue," tickles me on end because it was one of my favorite Crayola choices as a little girl!

You write with an elegance and emotion that are simply scintillating. I find myself wishing less that this was a single post and more that I had a book of your poetry to read tonight. What a wonderful gift!

    Thank you for sharing.
