Skies and Leaves

Spring

Dull coin atmosphere, drizzling down.

Shock of chartreuse bursting from tree and ground, shouting, “I’m awake now!”

Fluffy, overstuffed clouds floating on cerulean sky.

Fully-frocked trees, emerald, strutting in cool breezes and homey sunbeams.

Summer

Empty, hazy, washed-out, blinded-by-the-sun sky.

Leaves immobile. Pickle-green, edges singeing in lifeless air.

Fall

Clear, crisp cobalt heavens open for all.

Fauna burning. Ruby. Tangerine. Canary.

Cozy dove skies offering embraces.

Extinguished cinnamon and caramel vegetation floating to the ground.

Winter

Slate sky, thick, smooth, heavy, blanketing those below.

Trees evergreen. Or bare, no hints of life.

Arctic sky and air, clear and clean, stinging eyes and nose.

Beige grass waiting for its turn to shine again.

  1. The word choice in this poem blew me away. You capture the seasons so perfectly. As I read your descriptions, the lyrics to an old song surfaced in my mind. I love how writing has a way of transporting us to different seasons of our lives.

  2. Wow! Those are some powerful descriptions! You painted a vivid, clear picture of each season. I had to read it more than once because it was so pretty.
